Giving Hope to the Lives of Schoolchildren in Ma-Conteh Village , Port Loko District, Sierra Leone

It was a sad afternoon, visiting a school in Port-Loko, as the sight of innocent children sitting outside under the sun in a quest to acquire education left my eyes on tears.

Weeks ago I posted a video to FB about a school that needs tables and chairs for the kids to sit and write, and part of my trip to Sierra Leone was to see how Hope For Lives could help. I was shocked and saddened upon my visit to learn that the entire school building for 150 kids had collapsed as a result of a massive storm.

The kids eagerness to continue their learning resulted in them sitting under trees and squeezing together on the few benches.

Our original intention to build tables and chairs for the kids has expanded to constructing a new school building first. There’s still a long way to go in helping these kids rebuild their school. We donated all of the funds we had to the Residence Minister Haja Abdullai Kamara to help fund the school reconstruction. You can see the before photos of the collapsed building and some recent progress photos that show the school really starting to come together. I’m also pictured here with my good friend and generous supporter, Jimmy Bruzon of Action4Schools (based in Gibraltar), who has pledged to build a water well for this school that will help support the fresh water needs of Ma-Conteh Village. Thank you Jimmy and Action4Schools in advance for your continued support.

Please your help is urgently needed to help finish the school and furnish it with desks, chairs and tables. Please donate NOW to help build the Ma-Conteh Village school. We have a modest goal of raising $10,000 to $15,000 for this effort.
